The
Fine Arts Association is bringing Prairie Fire Children’s Theater to
St. Dominic’s June 9-13 for a musical rendition of Aladdin. In just
five days of intense rehearsal, you can learn all the songs, lines,
dances and staging. Up to seventy five students, ages 7-18, may
participate.
Auditions begin in the Marcy Center at 9 am on June
9th immediately followed by rehearsals that same day. Rehearsals
occur from 9-1:15 pm. Not everyone is called to all the rehearsals,
but they need to be available throughout the week.
Two public performances of the final production will
occur on Saturday, June 14th, at 2 pm and 7 pm.
If you are interested in participating, provide your
name, age, phone number, parent’s name and email address to St.
Dominic School along with a $50 check per participant payable to the
Fine Arts Association.

8th Grade Play
Hillbilly Hankerin'
The eighth grade Drama Club presented
Hillbilly Hankerin’ on Wednesday, November 7. Written by Pat
Cook, the play tells the story of two feuding families. The
Herefords and Guernseys have been blessed with many eligible
daughters, all of whom are enthusiastically seeking husbands. The
plot thickens as government agents arrive, and attempt to purchase
land jointly owned by these families at odds.
This comedy is directed by junior high
teachers Mrs. JoAnne Bischof and Ms. Kris Seifert. All forty-one
eighth grade students are participating in the production, either in
on-stage roles, or behind the scenes as construction crew, and sound
and lighting crew.

Directed by Junior High teachers, Mrs. Bischof and Ms. Seifert, the Drama
Club is an activity for seventh and eighth graders that runs throughout the
school year. In the fall, the eighth graders work on a production, which is
presented in November and in the spring semester seventh graders present a
production in May. At the end of the school year, the eighth grade students also
attend a dinner theatre performance to view a professional production.
This arts experience is open to all who wish to participate, regularly
including the entire grade of thirty-five to forty-five students. Even though
auditions are held, all students are given roles, either speaking parts in the
play or technical support. The program stresses the importance of practicing and
supporting each other, since cooperation and a team effort results in a
successful performance.
The Directors have a love and appreciation for the theatre and the desire to
share that interest with students. They enjoy working with the students and
devote time and effort to make each production a successful and meaningful
experience for them.
