Elmbrook Spelling Bee

Congratulation to 8th Grader Billy MacDonald who took 2nd place in Social Studies at the Dominican High School Academic Challenge on February 8, 2008.!

Congratulations to eighth grader Nathan Rein for taking third place in the Elmbrook Spelling Bee held at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts.  He will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 12.

We are proud of you, Nathan and Billy!

American Mathematics Contest

This contest, sponsored by the Mathematics Association of America, was held November 14, 2006. Over 180,000 students in 7th and 8th grades from more than 2,400 schools participated in the contest.

St. Dominic School eighth grade students Mark Engel and Patrick Jordan scored in the top 5% of all students in the competition and were awarded Honor Roll Certificates.

St. Dominic School also received a Certificate of Merit for a high team score comprised of the scores from the top three students: Mark Engel, Patrick Jordan and Julie Armstrong.

Top scoring 7th grade students from St. Dominic School were: Vince Moldenhauer and Billy MacDonald.

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in the contest, and also to our 7th and 8th grade Math teachers, Mrs. JoAnne Bischof and Ms. Donna LaFlamme, on these outstanding results.

Annual Bookmark Contest

Congratulations to the following St. Dominic School students who won prizes in the Annual Bookmark Contest during Children’s Book Week, sponsored by the Brookfield Public Library:

5th Grade: Genevieve Klinker 1st Prize
6th Grade: Tom Boffeli 1st Prize
  Christine Pelto Honorable Mention

Their artwork was displayed in the Brookfield Public Library and bookmarks were distributed to visitors in the Children’s section of the Library.

 

National Association of Biology Teachers’ Convention

Ms. Donna LaFlamme, our Junior High Science teacher, was selected to deliver a presentation in October at the National Association of Biology Teachers’ Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ms. LaFlamme collaborated with Karen DeBoer, a teacher at Kettle Moraine High School in presenting their work entitled: Bird Flu Knocking on the Door: Molecular Stories from the Center for BioMolecular Modeling of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The project involved designing a hands-on workshop in Molecular & Cell Biology for High School and Two Year College students.

 

All State Junior High Choir

The following students have qualified to participate in the All State Junior High Choir, which will be held in Madison, Wisconsin on January 12 and 13, 2007

  • 6th grade: Julia Hilbert, Jenna Marcello, Vanessa Yamat, Abby Tangney, Emily Wickeham and Danny Mirda
