By joining our hearts with the beauty
of sound, we give voice to our faith through the art of music.
Music soothes, excites, challenges and unites us in ways in which words
alone cannot. Through our hymns and acclamations, the singing of our
choirs, and the sounds of our instruments, music enables us to touch the
very mysteries of God as we unite in prayer.
At St. Dominic, music for worship
spans the centuries for Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony through
modern repertoire of the new millennium. Choirs and cantors
provide musical leadership at liturgical celebrations, and the church
houses a fine new (2005) Schantz pipe organ which is heard regularly in
worship. The church building provides a warm environment for the
ministry of music.
For those interested in becoming
involved in our music ministry, more information can be found under each
of the headings on the left of this page. Come, spend a few
moments here and see if there is something that interests you!
We're always happy to welcome new members into the ministry of Music at
Saint Dominic. |

Liturgy of the Hours "Evensong" or "Vespers"
We are all familiar with the liturgy we celebrate together
every Sunday, the Mass, or Eucharist. But did you know there is
another liturgy of the Church, sometimes called "the official
prayer of the Church"? It is the Liturgy of the Hours, by which
we sanctify every part of the day in union with people all over
the world.
Every Wednesday during Advent and Lent at 7 p.m., we
celebrate evening prayer ("Evensong" or "Vespers.") together at
St. Dominic. (We call it "Evensong" or "Sung Vespers" because,
with the exception of the prayers after the Psalms and the
Scripture Reading, the entire prayer is sung by those gathered
and a cantor or choir.)This is part of the Liturgy of the Hours.
