The development of the cast bronze Crucifix for the Prayer Gardens began nearly three years ago with a sketch.  The cross was inspired by the geometric lines of the architecture of the church and bell tower.  After the sketch was approved, the crucifix was modeled in clay.  Several adjustments were made to evoke the desired depiction of Our Lord.

We are grateful to all who have helped so far by generously planting "Seeds of Giving" as our parish Prayer Gardens continue to take shape. We are very thankful for the generous gift of Marge Healy, who sponsored our new Crucifix, in memory of her special daughter, Mary.

May God continue to bless this unfolding gift to present and future parishioners as this area of our parish grounds is being transformed into a sacred space, holy ground!

Prior to its arrival at St. Dominic, the crucifix is protected in a shipping crate.

In this cast bronze statue of our patron, St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican order, the saint is depicted with his traditional symbols.  The dog carries a burning torch to set the world (represented by the orb at his feet) aflame with the Gospel, which he holds in his left hand.  The star at his forehead recalls a vision associated with his baptism, and the beads reflect his devotion for the rosary.

We are grateful to all who have helped so far by planting "Seeds of Giving" as our parish Prayer Gardens begin to take shape.  We are very appreciative of the gift of Bob and Marge Sherman who have sponsored our new St. Dominic statue.

May God bless this special space on our parish grounds.

Additional Planned Statues for the Prayer Gardens

We have two remaining shrines that will be added to the prayer gardens sometime in the future, Christ and the Children and the Pieta; Mary with the crucified body of her son, Jesus, in her lap.  We have received one donation for the Pieta shrine.

Each of the two remaining shrines will necessitate
a donation of $50,000 to become a reality in the prayer gardens. If you would be in a position and are interested in providing a $10,000 donation toward the cost or more, please contact Danita Stich at the grade school or me.
